Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Liverpool West Public School, Scripture is delivered on a Thursday:

K-2 (including K-6 Sky and K-3 Mint) – 11:40am-12:10pm

Stage 2 – 12:10-12:40pm

Stage 3 (including 3-6 Sunshine and 3-6 Mauve) – 12:40-1:10pm.

On enrolment parents/carers are given the Special Religious Education (SRE) note to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE need to be given to the school office, in writing, by the parent/carer.

The following SRE classes are offered at Liverpool West Public School:

Anglican SRE is provided by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. For more information about Anglican SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit www.sydneyanglicans.net.

Catholic SRE is provided by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. For more information about Catholic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit https://www.sydneycatholic.org/education/#scripture.

Islamic SRE is provided by the Islamic Charity Projects Association. For more information about Islamic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit www.icpa.org.au.

During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will participate in meaningful lessons, delivered by LWPS teachers, which provoke higher order thinking and problem-solving, including social skills and values.
